Volunteers

Volunteer at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery

From behind-the-scenes duties to public reception, in virtually all aspects of the Gallery, our volunteers strengthen the space. We are extremely grateful for their generous spirit.

In 2008, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery benefited from the efforts of over 150 volunteers, of all ages, backgrounds and interests. Some of our volunteers have been with us for decades, others have just barely reached a decade in age!

Depending on your interests and schedule, there are diverse ways to contribute to the Gallery’s operations.

Front Desk Attendant

Our front desk attendants welcome visitors into the Gallery space, invite them to ask questions about current exhibits, and help us with administrative tasks. As the first point of contact for the Gallery, whether on the telephone or in the person, we appreciate our front desk attendants’ friendly and resourceful support.

Gallery Guide (Docent)

Our gallery guides are also called docents, a Latin derivative meaning “to teach”. Docents are integral to our education programs at the Gallery. Acting as hands-on assistants during workshops and leading tours through the exhibits are the main activities of our docents.

Art Class Assistant

Art class assistants facilitate classes and workshops by assisting the visiting instructors and encouraging participants to get involved in their own creative process. Our art class assistants work with people of all ages to ensure participants have a unique and fulfilling art class experience.

Special Events
Most of the Gallery’s special events are annual activities that bring both awareness to the community about the Gallery and serve as valuable fundraisers to support the Gallery’s programs. Our special events volunteers help with every step of the event organizing process: from inspiring new ideas to taking tickets at the door. Some of our special events include the Garden Tour, the Bird House Auction, and the Christmas House Tour.

We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds who wish to share their time and skills with us. If you would like to get involved with the Gallery, please get in touch with us at 577-6427, or email Cathy Krelove, Front of House Supervisor, at ckrelove@theag.ca or Socorro Woodman, Development Coordinator, at swoodman@theag.ca

Thank you for your consideration!
